    HONORS CHEMISTRY AND LAB

Description: We will study all aspects of Chemistry including but not limited to: atoms- their properties, how they react, how they bond; moles; stoichiometry; gas laws; organic chemistry; balancing chemical equations; states of matter; chemical equilibrium; acids and bases; oxidation-reduction; and other topics. This class involves daily homework, weekly reading, and periodic testing. Students must have taken and have a working knowledge of Algebra I and I prefer they be enrolled in Algebra II or higher. This class is designed for college bound students. At the end of the course, the student could possibly take the Chemistry CLEP or the Chemistry AP for college credit. This year lab is included as a part of the course. Many of the labs that have been done in the past will become hands on activities we do in class. There will only be 7 - 10 formal labs the students will do and have to write a formal lab report to be turned in for a grade.

Homework: There is weekly homework that will take approximately 3 to 7 hours per week to finish plus weekly vocabulary quizzes, periodic tests that will be taken in class, a midterm and a final exam. This amount of work will prepare your student for college.
