Week of October 28th
We have lots of news this week so please take a moment to read this entirely and pass on to your children by forwarding it to their email addresses.
As stated last week, on November 18th and January 27th our church home will be unavailable for use by Friday School due to earlier scheduled meetings by other groups. Since then, Mrs. Palmer has met with the tutors and has rescheduled those Fridays to meet on Good Friday, April 6th, and adding a Friday to the end of the school year, May 25th. Additionally, some teachers have made other arrangements for the 18th of November by meeting elsewhere or by planning a field trip at another time. Please check with each of your tutors to find out any schedule additions or changes.
If you are volunteering extra in October or December due to the closure of the school on November 18th you WILL be credited for the month of November as long as you log your time in the book. We will NOT be doing this for January 27th though, so please make sure you schedule your volunteer time accordingly so you stay current. Thank you in advance for your patience during these schedule changes.
Volunteer shifts - Attached are the rosters for October, November, and December.
Please look them over to choose your volunteer shifts.
Please send a request for volunteer hours or a change through the email with:
date, shift and monitor # that you are requesting and/or changing along with a 1st and 2nd choice so it can cut down on correspondence back and forth.
It will get more complicated as we get closer to the end of the semester.
Thank you for keeping up with your shifts.
This Friday, Oct. 28th we have scheduled the photographer for for our individual yearbook pictures.
He will be on campus from 10am-2pm.
Teachers & Students - Come wearing your pretty smiles!
Mrs. Cowan's field trip to Jus' Cuz Pottery is scheduled for Wed. Nov. 9.
All are welcome. This is an awesome studio in Spring Branch. Artists Jenny and Al Hoeksema will demo their working methods, give us a great talk about life as a professional artist, and give us a tour of their amazing work.
Call me for more info , Linda - 979-8091.

Week of September 30th
I hope your first week of Fall is pleasant.
Here are a few items that are newsworthy:
- Prom Meeting this Friday in Mrs. Palmers room at lunch (11:30). Come join the fun as Prom Committee discusses the theme for Prom this year.
All Juniors and Seniors encouraged and welcome, please come with some wacky wonderful Prom theme ideas.
Parents are always welcome and needed.
We also need a few hard working dedicated Sophomores to learn the ropes.
- Rosters for September through December are attached. Please stay on top of your volunteer shifts so you do not get behind. Please note I am waiting confirmation that these calendars have the correct holidays listed. If there is a change or an error, I will notify you.
- Extra help is welcomed. Please consider helping clean up at the end of the day. At the end of the day we try very hard to leave the church cleaner than how we found it. Each classroom needs vacuuming, trash needs taking out, floors swept/mopped. Any extra help is appreciated. Thank you!
- Snack Bar update: Thank you to all who have given donations to the snack bar. You are appreciated. We are off to a great start! If you have not given an item or a few $ to help, please consider picking up some easy lunch items to donate. i.e. Hormel stew, ravioli, soups Sometimes students will forget their lunch and an easy lunch would be very helpful. Thanks!
- Join Student Council. Just a reminder we meet the first Friday of the month (Oct. 7th at 11:30 in room 218). Beef up your transcript and learn to be a leader. It's fun, free, and enriches your life.

Week of September 23rd
Here is some handy information for this week:
- Rosters for September and October are attached to this email. Please send in requests via email and be sure to sign in to the log book if you are volunteering this Friday.
- There will not be a Student Council meeting this Friday as previously announced at last week's meeting.
- It is not too late for students to join Student Council.
It is a wonderful opportunity to gain leadership skills, participate in planning fun activities for Friday School as well as becoming involved in community service. This also sets students apart when applying for future jobs and is a clear indicator to universities of the quality and character of the student when they see it on their transcript. Parents, encourage your students to join.
Meetings are once a month. There is no cost. This is offered to grades 7 -12. Officer elections will be held in October. All officers must be in high school.
Our next meeting will be October 7th at 11:30 in room 218.
To sign up or if you have any questions, please contact Jennie Offield aacefridayschool@yahoo.com.
- Be sure to get student i.d. cards made this Friday if you have not done so yet.
- Parents, please forward this to your children's email address each week so they can be aware of any news. We have one email address per family and it will help if they can see this too. Thanks!
- Thank you for all who helped last week. Thanks especially to all the students who helped teachers bring in their belongings upon arrival and clean up at the end of the day. You are appreciated!

Week of September 16th
I hope you are all having a great week of homeschooling. Last Friday went so well! Thank you for doing your part to make Friday School successful.
Here is what we all need to know for this week:
- If you know of a family planning on registering for Friday School, please let them know they still can sign up for classes but they need to hurry. Tell them to come this Friday and contact tutors ahead of time to ensure their is room in the class(es).
- Attached to this email are the volunteer rosters for Sept. and Oct. These are for "view only" so you can see what is available. Send an email with your request with date, shift and job you desire. I will send an email with confirmation if you were able to place that slot. It would be helpful if you give a 1st and 2nd choice in case your 1st choice was already taken. Our volunteer coordinator will always do her best to give 1st choice.
- Thank you! Thank you! for all the donations to the Snack Bar. We are off to a great start!! We will have the donation box set up this Friday as well in case you haven't been able to pick up something to add yet. Thank you again for all your help! You are appreciated!
- If you did not pay October tuition last week to your tutors please do so this Friday. It is considered late at this point and your tutors may have late fees. Please be sure to ask if there are any late fees.
- Student Council will have their first meeting this Friday during lunch in room 218. Students may bring their lunch to the meeting. You may still sign up to join the Student Council. All interested need to come to the meeting at 11:30.
- If you are around at the end of the day, your help cleaning up would be greatly appreciated. We want to leave the church very clean and neat each week so as tutors finish their last class if you could help them rearrange furniture, take out trash, or vacuum it would really help. Thank you for all the students and parents who helped last Friday.

First Day Of Friday School!!!
Greetings,
This Friday will be our first day of Friday School. There are several items of which I need to inform you.
- First, attached to this email you will find the volunteer rosters for September and October. Please check them to make sure you have noted the correct time to come serve your volunteer shifts.
- When you arrive this Friday, your child/children will need to get their i.d. made if they have not done so already. The cost is $7. Each week when they arrive, they need to show this i.d. to enter and leave the building. You have the option to indicate on the card if you give them to permission to leave without you or not. Your student(s) need to be sure to not lose these so they may continue to enter the building each week. If they do lose them, a replacement i.d. will need to be bought. This is for the safety of all our Friday School families. Please do not enter the building where the day care center is. Please go to the next entrance to the left when entering and leaving. We need to respect their area and stay out the day care areas.
- Next, please check the website, www.fridayschool.com, so you know what time your child's classes begin. Under NEWS you will learn how to register if you have not done so already or even add a class. Most classes still have room for a few more students in them if you want to add to your child's schedule.
- High School Students may join Student Council. Sign up will be this Friday and our first meeting will be the next Friday during lunch. There will be many opportunities this year for the Student Council to plan and implement fun days, design the school t-shirt, community service, and learn about student government. It's a great opportunity for your student. There will be a sign up table in the Fellowship Hall this Friday.
- This Saturday, September 10th, is the "Back To School" dance at Incarnet Word University, Heritage hall, 7:30-10:30, $6 to get in and a snack to share. Dress is casual ( jeans and a shirt, sometimes girls wear sun dresses or longer shorts. We ask for no short shorts).
- Snack Bar: Each year Friday School makes a yearbook for the students at no charge to the families. The proceeds from the Snack Bar pays for the yearbook. Please consider making a small donation of either a box of snacks or drinks from Sam's or Costco or by giving $10 to go towards buying snacks & drinks for the snack bar to sell. You may leave donations at the Student Council sign up table this Friday. The Snack Bar will be open this Friday!
- SAT prep class: Comprehensive Mathematics and English course to help high school students prepare for the SAT test.
When: Saturdays in September
September 10, 20119:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

- If your student is taking Mrs. Valdez's Advanced Biology Class at 9am, please meet her in the parking lot by her 2000 Chrysler Gray Mini-Van so you can help her bring in her equipment. Thank you!
- And last but not least, it is the first Friday of the month, so please come prepared to pay your tutors for October tuition. As you know, tuition is paid one month in advance. If you are registering for the first time this Friday, you will need to pay Sept. and Oct. as well as the Family Fee of $75 to join AACE.

Late Registration Info For 2011-2012 Classes
Hello,
As the first day of Friday School approaches, I need to let you know some things.
- Late registration - If you have not registered yet. Here is what you need to do:
Please download the registration form from the Schedule page of the website. www.fridayschool.com
Bring it with your $75 family fee to Late Registration on Friday, September 9th at 8:30A.M.
From 8:30 - 9:45 you will sign up for the classes you want, sign up for volunteer shifts,
and attend a mandatory orientation which will begin promptly at 10 am.
Regardless of your child's class time, you need to be here for registration at the time indicated above.
**Please note*** At regular registration in August, September tuition was paid along with any supply fees. AACE requires all tuition payments made one month in advance. Being the first Friday in September, October tuition is now due. Please be prepared to pay: September tuition, supply fees, and October tuition on September 9th.
(As of today, I checked with the tutors and all still have room in their classes. I would highly recommend you emailing them individually to reserve a spot.)
- First day of classes are Friday, September 9th.
- October tuition is due on this day.
- Please be prepared to sign up for future volunteer shifts on this day.
- I.D. cards will be made this day if you have not already done so.
- Student Council - High School students may sign up for Student Council the first day of classes. The first meeting will be during lunch on week 2.
- The Student Council and the Yearbook will be sponsoring the Snack Bar this year. Please consider making a $10 donation to purchase snacks for the Snack Bar or bring an item from Sam's or Costco for the Snack Bar to sell. Thank you for your support. This ensures our yearbooks remain free each year.
- Questions? The BEST way to reach us is to email aacefridayschool@yahoo.com. I monitor this mailbox and try to respond very promptly.
We are very excited about the new school year and cannot wait to see you all on September 9th!

Registration 2011-2012
Greetings from Friday School!
I hope each of you are enjoying your Summer. Even though we have several weeks of Summer left, it is time to mark your calendars for Friday School registration.
Here are the details:
Alamo Area Christian Educators (aka Friday School) Registration:
Friday, August 5th
9:30 am to 2:30 pm.
NOTE: New Location!
San Antonio First Church of the Nazarene
10715 West Ave.
San Antonio, TX 78213
Google Maps link
If you have not printed your registration form yet, follow the link to get your form.
On registration day, bring the form filled out. That form will include our policies and any pertinent information you need to register. The fee to register is $75 per family.
Important things to remember on registration day:
- Your checkbook (or cash) - You will need to write checks to Friday School & individual tutors for:
- $75 family fee
- any supply fees listed on class descriptions
- first month's tuition for each tutor**
- your student's i.d. card. ($7.00) (only if your child is with you; i.d cards will also be made on the first day of classes)
- Registration form - filled out.
- Your calendar - all families will need to sign up for volunteer hours for September and October. Volunteers are essential to Friday School's success. Every family will need to sign up for volunteer shifts when they come to register.
*$75 family fee has changed from last year. Your form may have a different amount listed. Please note the new fee is $75 for everyone.
** AACE requires tuition to be paid one month in advance. For example, at registration in Aug. you will pay September's tuition. The first Friday in September, you will pay October's tuition. This will continue and be due the FIRST Friday of each month throughout the school year. In May, there will be no tuition due. Please email any questions regarding this prior to registration day. Please also note, some tutors have late fees applied when payments are missed.
If you have any questions, simply reply to this email and we will try our best to answer you very promptly. Please do not contact the church as they are simply our gracious hosts. If you absolutely need to call, you may reach Jennie Offield at 210-367-7632 and leave a voice-mail including a way to reach you & the nature of your question (no texts). Email is the best way to reach us.
We are excited about the upcoming school year and our new location. Please take a minute to locate it on the map to familiarize yourself.
Some helpful tips:
- Know what classes you want before arriving and email those tutors to see if they will pencil you in to save a spot.
- You will need to sign up for 1 volunteer shift per month per family as long as you are enrolling for up to 5 classes. If your children cumulatively are taking 6 or more classes total you will need to volunteer for 2 shifts per month.
- There is no need to arrive before your designated registration time. So that we may set up, doors will not open early. Due to the heat, I would recommend coming right at the designated time for your comfort.
- Remember we will need your family doctor's name and phone number as well as the name and phone number of a non-parent emergency contact.
The schedule will go like this:
9:30 check in and finalize paperwork
10:00 Orientation. Followed by class enrollment.
12:00-1:00 lunch. Families will leave for lunch on their own.
1:00 run-through begins:
1:00-1:15 first period
1:15-1:30 second period
1:30-1:45 third period
1:45 -2:00 fourth period
2:00 -2:15 fifth period
2:15 -2:30 final period for those who missed a tutor earlier.
We look forward to seeing you then.
